Iím delighted to share with you today a love letter submission from one of my regular readers who emailed me excitedly asking that I ďpublish this love letter to my best friend!Ē Being someone who doesnít want to disappoint my readers, and given how cool the sentiment it is, I thought why the hell not. So please enjoy Danís love letter and leave him a nice comment if you like it.
I am taking the time to communicate to you in this old-fashioned way because I feel it is important to be real. I want to tell you what is in my heart and tell you in an authentic, genuine way Ė no fake sentiment here. We have spent a long life together, and our love has grown and changed over the years, but in the beginning it was not always easy. That was my fault, because I didnít know how to express my feelings, and when youíre a teenage boy thatís not really surprising. But Iíve learned to do better at this during the course of our marriage, and what I want to tell you now is this: thank you!
Couples who have been together for a long time have an unfortunate tendency to begin to take each other for granted, to not say what they are feeling, and to not want to take the time to analyze and understand those feelings in order to better communicate. Thatís something we have been able to avoid for the most part, but I still believe that I need to say to you in the simplest and strongest words how grateful I am to you.
Since we were high-school sweethearts you have been the one I lean on, the one I depend on, the one I love and who loves me, and most of all the one who believes in me. You have always supported me through good times and bad times. Remember when the store was dangerously close to having to shut its doors and go out of business? My dad started the place, and it provided you and me and our growing family with a good living until things began to go downhill. You convinced me that together we could turn it around and make it a success again, and you gave me the confidence and passion I needed to get the job done.
As for the good times, I remember seeing our daughter for the first time, and thinking I might have a heart-attack on the spot from the sheer joy. You understood my feelings, and we cried and laughed together in a way that told me you were my rock through sorrow and through joy. As she grew up and our son came along, you always showed me and told what a good father I was, and helped me get them and us through the tough teen years. We all came out of it in good shape, thanks in large part to you, my love.
And now as we face our final challenge of growing old together, I just want to make sure that you know how much I love you, how much I owe you that I can never repay, and how much I want to thank you for being my life partner. You have been the best, and there is no one I would rather have spent my life with than you. Letís face these golden years together, knowing that our love will never die.
Thank you for your submission, Dan, this letter just goes to show that there is always an opportunity to express yourself in the words of a love letter!
